Our Mission Statement

A Caring Community of Faith Called by the Spirit to Extend Christ’s Love to All Creation.

Member- PCUSA

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), or PC(USA), is a mainline Protestant Christian denomination in the United States. Part of the Reformed tradition, it is the largest Presbyterian denomination in the U.S. The session of the local congregation has a great deal of freedom in the style and ordering of worship within the guidelines set forth in the Directory for Worship section of the Book of Order. Worship varies from congregation to congregation. We recommend a visit to experience our Sunday morning worship service.

“Presbyter” in the New Testament means a ruling elder of the early Christian church. In the modern church, out governing board consists of elders elected by members and ordained to provide spiritual and administrative guidance for the church. This board is called the “Session.” Deacons, also mentioned in the New Testament, are elected and ordained to care for the needs of the people.  We are connected to the regional Presbytery of the Cascades (including Western Oregon), and the PC (USA), the mainline Presbyterian denomination.

History

Westminster Presbyterian Church was founded in 1953. We have a church historian who is an active member.

Our Beliefs

Presbyterians affirm that God comes to us with grace and love in the person of Jesus Christ, who lived, died, and rose for us so that we might have eternal and abundant life in him. As Christ’s disciples, called to ministry in his name, we seek to continue his mission of teaching the truth, feeding the hungry, healing the broken, and welcoming strangers. God sends the Holy Spirit to dwell within us, giving us the energy, intelligence, imagination, and love to be Christ’s faithful disciples in the world.

More than two million people call the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) their spiritual home. Worshiping in 10,000 Presbyterian congregations throughout the United States, they engage the communities in which they live and serve with God’s love.

Every church has it’s own flexibility and mix of personal perspectives on faith. Here at at Westminster, we come from many backgrounds and have a wide range of concerns and interests. Holding us together is our common desire to know more of the meaning of Christ in our lives. We seek an open and nurturing attitude toward one another. We welcome others interested in traveling with us in faith.

Inclusive vs Exclusive

We worship an inclusive and loving God, who calls all persons into relationship, both with God and with neighbor. We affirm that all people are created in the image of God and as beloved children of God, all are worthy of God’s love and grace. We celebrate the gift of diversity reflected in our neighborhood and the world. We welcome the full inclusion of all people in the life and ministries of Westminster Church as we journey toward reconciliation through Christ. We embrace our human family’s diversity of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, age, faith history, economic status, marital status, physical and mental ability, and education.
